BAAM Kashmir Panel Focused on Solution Offers

A panel on the role of Pakistan and India in South Asia and the Middle East in the contemporary international system was held on August 5 at the Ankara office of the Bosphorus Center for Asian Studies (BAAM).

The panel titled “South Asia in the 21st Century’s International Politics: Pakistan and India’s Role in the Middle East, Afghanistan, and Kashmir” was chaired by the senior fellow at BAAM, Md. Nazmul Islam, and was realized with the participation of Mr. Umer Kerim who is the research fellow at Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) in London, and Mr.Iftikhar Gilani who is the senior journalist at Anadolu Agency. Many journalists, researchers, and students from South Asia attended the panel.

The panel, in which RUSI researcher Umer Kerim focused on the fundamental dynamics of Pakistani foreign policy and Pakistan-India relations and discussed the importance of these dynamics on the region – especially in the Kashmir problem and the Afghanistan peace process – continued with the speech of Iftikhar Gilani. On the other hand, Anadolu Agency reporter Iftikhar Gilani focused on the historical background of the Kashmir problem, the demographic and cultural structure of the Kashmir region, and the current situation in Kashmir and Afghanistan.

The panel ended with a question and answer session that was showed great interest from the researchers, reporters, and foreign students who live in Turkey.
